How to use a Discord translator bot

Setting up and using a translator bot on Discord takes a couple of minutes. Here is the whole process with Talksy, from adding the bot to translating your first message, plus how admins enable it for an entire server.

Set it up in four steps

  1. Add the bot to your server. Click “Add Talksy to Discord”, pick your server, and authorize. Flag-reaction translation works straight away, with no configuration.
  2. An admin picks the channels. For automatic inline translation, a member with Manage Server clicks ⚡ Set up on Talksy’s welcome message and picks the channels, or runs /server enable then /server channel add channel:#general.
  3. Members opt in with /talksy. Each member who wants their messages translated runs /talksy language:spanish (or any language). It is per server, so you can use different languages in different communities.
  4. Translate on demand, three ways. React to any message with a flag emoji for a one-off translation, run /translate (or right-click → Apps → Translate Message) for specific text, or let automatic inline translation handle your messages once you have opted in.
/server enable
/server channel add channel:#general
/talksy language:spanish

The three ways to translate

  • Flag reactions: react to a message with a flag emoji (🇬🇧, 🇫🇷, 🇯🇵…) and Talksy replies with the translation. Zero setup, works for anyone.
  • /translate: translate specific text on demand, or right-click a message → Apps → Translate Message. Only you see the result. Handy for checking your own message before sending.
  • Automatic inline: after you opt in with /talksy, every message you send in an enabled channel is also posted in your chosen language, under your name and avatar.

Tips

  • Run /talksy with no options any time to check your current settings.
  • Stealth mode (/talksy language:spanish stealth:true) deletes your original message after translating, keeping channels clean.
  • Flag reactions are the fastest way to onboard members: no registration, just react.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a translator bot in Discord?

Add the bot (Talksy), then translate one of three ways: react to a message with a flag emoji, use the /translate command, or opt in to automatic inline translation with /talksy language:spanish (in channels an admin has enabled) so your messages are posted in that language too. No copy-paste needed.

How do I set up a translator bot for the whole server?

An admin with the Manage Server permission clicks ⚡ Set up on Talksy’s welcome message, or runs /server enable and adds the channels with /server channel add channel:#general. Members who want their messages translated then each run /talksy language:spanish (or any language). After that, their messages in those channels are translated inline automatically. To translate a whole channel for everyone, use a channel route.

Do all members need to install anything?

No. The bot is added once to the server by an admin. Individual members just run /talksy to choose their language — nothing to install. Flag-reaction translations work for anyone with zero setup.

Is it free to use?

Yes. Talksy’s free tier gives each member 100 automatic translations, 100 manual /translate commands, and 50 flag-reaction translations per month across 100+ languages. Talksy Pro (€8.99/mo) removes the limits.

How do I stop the bot translating for me?

Run /talksy off:true. You can still translate individual messages on demand with flag reactions whenever you want, without auto-translation enabled.
