Automatic translation bot for Discord

Discord servers have gone international: gaming clans, esports orgs, study groups and creator communities pull members from every timezone. But Discord itself won't translate what people type. An automatic translation bot fills that gap: in the channels you choose, it translates the messages of members who opted in as soon as they're sent, so nobody has to copy-paste anything.

Does Discord have a built-in translator?

No. Discord localizes its own interface into many languages, but it does not translate member messages. There is no native "auto-translate chat" toggle. To translate conversations you install a translation bot, and the good ones are automatic, so nobody has to run a command for every message.

How automatic translation works

With Talksy, an admin picks the channels where translation runs, and each member who wants to be understood in another language picks it once. When that member sends a message, Talksy detects the language it was written in, translates it into the language they chose, and posts the result inline, under their own name and avatar (via a Discord webhook). A bilingual channel reads like one natural conversation instead of a wall of bot embeds. A typical translation takes about a second.

Automatic source-language detection matters: members never have to declare what language they're typing. Talksy detects it, and skips messages that are only links, numbers or mentions.

Two ways to translate automatically

Auto-translate (opt-in)

An admin clicks ⚡ Set up on Talksy's welcome message and picks the channels (or runs /server enable and /server channel add channel:#general). Each member who wants their messages translated then runs one command, once per server:

/talksy language:spanish

Fully consent-based: nobody is translated unless they opted in.

Flag reactions (zero setup)

Anyone reacts to a message with a country-flag emoji and Talksy replies with the translation. No account and no configuration needed: the flag is the language. Perfect for the occasional message in another language.

What to look for in an automatic translation bot

  • Inline delivery: translations posted as the speaker, not as bot embeds or DMs
  • Automatic language detection: no per-message language picking
  • 100+ languages on the free tier: not a small subset gated behind a paywall
  • Predictable pricing: a flat unlimited plan rather than character credits you re-buy
  • Channel routes: mirror one channel into another, fully translated, for announcements or language rooms

Frequently asked questions

Does Discord have a built-in translator?

No. Discord has no native, automatic message translation — it can localize its own interface, but it will not translate what members type. To auto-translate chat you add a translation bot such as Talksy, which translates each message in real time across 100+ languages.

How do I make a Discord bot automatically translate messages?

Add an automatic translation bot, then either (1) turn on auto-translate: an admin picks the channels, and each member who wants their messages translated picks a language once with /talksy, or (2) use flag reactions: anyone reacts to a message with a country-flag emoji and gets the translation, with zero setup. With Talksy both are on the free tier.

Is there a free automatic translation bot for Discord?

Yes. Talksy’s free tier gives every member 100 automatic translations, 100 manual /translate commands, and 50 flag-reaction translations per month across all 100+ languages — and voting on Top.gg resets your monthly counter. Upgrade to Pro (€8.99/mo unlimited) only if you outgrow it.

How many languages can a Discord translation bot handle?

A good automatic translation bot supports 100+ languages with automatic source-language detection, so members never pick the input language. Talksy covers 100+ languages on every tier, including the free one.

Do automatic translations look like normal messages?

They can. Talksy posts each translation inline via a webhook under the original sender’s name and avatar, so it reads like a normal message instead of a bot reply or a DM. That keeps a multilingual channel readable rather than doubling every line with an embed.

Add automatic translation to your server

Talksy translates chat as it happens, in 100+ languages, inline as the original speaker. Free tier, no credit card.
